Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and the operator of MeetFolks ("we", "us") covering the app at meetfolks.app and the service behind it. Setting up a device or joining a session means you accept them. If you do not, do not use the service.
What happens to data is described separately, in the Privacy note, which forms part of these terms.
1What the service does
MeetFolks records a conversation on the phones of the people taking part and works out who spoke when, by merging what each phone says about its own owner. It is provided free of charge, as it is, with no commitment to availability, and it may change.
2Recording other people is your responsibility
You are the one in the room. Before you start a recording, you must have the consent of everyone whose voice may be captured — including people who are not using the app, and people who join the table later.
The law here differs by country and by state, and some places require the consent of every party rather than one. Some settings prohibit recording outright, or make it a condition of employment, membership or licence. You are responsible for knowing which rules apply where you are and for meeting them, including any obligation to notify people, to stop when asked, or to hold a lawful basis for the recording. We do not, and cannot, verify that consent was given.
Specifically, you agree that you will:
- tell the people around you that a recording is running, before it starts;
- stop recording, and delete what was captured, when someone asks you to;
- not use MeetFolks covertly, or to record anyone who has refused, or in any place where recording is not permitted;
- not upload audio you did not record yourself, or that you have no right to hand over.
The app deletes audio on request from within a live session and automatically 30 days after it arrives; see the Privacy note §3 and §7.
3The output is an estimate, not a record
Attribution is statistical. It says which of the participating phones was most likely to be capturing its own owner's voice at each moment, and it can be wrong: it can put a name on words somebody else said, miss speech entirely, or leave real speech unattributed.
In our own testing, merged per-owner claims were 92.8% accurate with 90.5% coverage — but that was two speakers, two devices, one conversation, one room, measured against internally derived labels rather than human transcription. It establishes that the approach beats the alternatives more firmly than it fixes an accuracy number, and it is not a warranty of anything.
Do not rely on MeetFolks output as an authoritative record of who said what. In particular, do not use it on its own as evidence, as a disciplinary or HR record, or as the basis of a legal, medical, financial or employment decision. Signatures prevent a device claiming to be someone else; they do not prevent someone over-claiming their own identity, and the check against that is currently off by default.
4Your device
A device is set up for one person — its owner — and it may only ever claim that person's speech. Do not set up a device on someone else's behalf, misrepresent whose voice a template belongs to, or share a device token. The template and signing key live only on your phone: if you lose the phone or clear its storage, they are gone and cannot be restored, because we never had them.
5Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break §2 or §4;
- use the service to harass, intimidate, stalk or surveil anyone, or to build a record of a person's speech without their knowledge;
- probe, overload or interfere with the service, its rate limits or other people's sessions, or attempt to reach data belonging to sessions you are not part of;
- submit forged, automated or fabricated claims, envelopes or audio, or otherwise try to make the merge assert something that did not happen;
- use the service where doing so would break the law that applies to you.
Access may be suspended or removed if any of this happens.
6Your content
What you record stays yours. You grant us only the permission needed to run the
service for you: to receive, store and process your audio, claims and envelopes in
order to produce a session result. That includes sending the audio, and the display
names at the table, to AssemblyAI for transcription — which is how
this deployment is configured today, as the app states before you record and
/v1/config reports live. The permission ends when
the data is deleted.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use your audio, transcripts or claims to train any model; we have opted out of AssemblyAI's model-improvement programme so that they do not either. We do use recordings, while they are still within the retention window, to measure how accurately this app attributed and transcribed them — that is what the window is 30 days long for, and the Privacy note §3 says so in full. Their retention of the copy they receive is theirs, and is described in the Privacy note §4.
7Availability, changes and ending it
The service is free and offered without any uptime or retention commitment. We may change, suspend or discontinue it, in whole or in part, at any time, and may delete sessions and their results — including for capacity or cost reasons. Audio is deleted on a fixed schedule in any case.
You may stop using MeetFolks whenever you like; deleting the template and key on your device removes the part of it we could never reach. These terms may be updated by editing this page and moving the date at the top; continuing to use the service after a change means accepting it.
8No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that attribution will be correct, that transcription will be accurate, that a session will complete, or that data will not be lost.
9Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for loss of data, profits, goodwill or opportunity, arising out of your use of the service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to INR 1,000. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
10Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from your use of the service in breach of these terms — in particular claims brought by someone you recorded without the consent §2 requires.
11Third-party services
The service runs on infrastructure operated by Cloudflare and Railway, transcribes through AssemblyAI, and uses third-party open-source components including the ECAPA speaker model and the ONNX Runtime. Their terms govern their own services; we are not responsible for them.
12Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and you and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If your local consumer law gives you rights that cannot be contracted away, this clause does not take them from you.
